More than 20 million people fully vaccinated, according to official data

Bangladesh has vaccinated nearly 25% of its population with at least the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

As of Sunday, more than 40 million people had received the first vaccines, according to the latest data provided by the directorate of health (DGHS). More than 20 million people have been fully immunized, the statement said.

The latest figures from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics put the country’s total population at over 160 million people.

In February, the government launched a nationwide mass vaccination campaign with the aim of vaccinating 80% of the population against Covid-19.

According to the DGHS, the majority of patients received Sinopharm injections from China. Bangladesh has also administered the Oxford-AstraZeneca, Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines to its citizens.

Statistics show that more men than women received their initial doses of the vaccine, highlighting a gender gap in immunization.

Among the divisions, the Dhaka division is leading the vaccination race, where nearly 10 million people received the first injection, followed by Chittagong with nearly 7 million.

With just over 100,000 people vaccinated, Bandarban district administered the fewest doses.
