Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzak said on Sunday that the regional office of the World Food Security Institute (GIFS) in Dhaka will play an important role in addressing challenges to make food security sustainable.

He made the remarks during the inauguration of GIFS at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) in the Farmgate area of ​​Dhaka, according to a press release.

Razzak said the Saskatchewan region has a global reputation for versatile and quality agri-food production.

“With the opening of this office in Dhaka, their technology and experience can be used. Cooperation between Bangladesh and Canada in the field of agriculture will be further strengthened, ”he added.

David Merritt, Minister of Agriculture for the Government of Saskatchewan, also spoke on the occasion.

He said: “We must work together to meet the food needs of a growing population and make food security sustainable. To this end, the two countries will work together.

During the inauguration ceremony, an agreement was signed between GIFS-Canada and BARC for the installation of the office in Dhaka.

It was signed by Sheikh Mohammad Bokhtiar, Executive Chairman of BARC, and Stephen Visher, COO of GIFS.
