95% of the target population has been vaccinated against Covid-19 in the country, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said on Friday.

So far, 25 million doses of the vaccine have been administered, the minister said during an iftar mahfil organized by the Manikganj district police.

According to the country’s population, more than 75% of people have been vaccinated against Covid-19, he added.

The number of Covid infections is falling as around 40 to 50 or 60 cases are reported with no deaths every day across the country, the minister said.

“The economy is booming as the Covid situation in the country is under control.”

Zahid Maleque also urged those who have not yet received the booster dose to take the vaccine.

Meanwhile, referring to the role of the police during the pandemic, the minister said, “The assistance of the police in vaccination activities has made our activities successful.”

Bangladesh has administered at least 253,352,758 doses of Covid vaccines so far. Assuming each person needs 2 doses, this is enough to vaccinate about 77.7% of the country’s population.

Covid situation in Bangladesh

Bangladesh recorded 48 new Covid cases in 24 hours till Friday morning April 8, bringing the total number of cases to 19,51,995.

According to the latest government data, the total number of deaths in the country remained stable at 29,123, with no deaths reported during the period, for the 4th consecutive day.

The daily positivity rate rose slightly to 0.77% from 0.65% on Thursday after testing 6,230 samples during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In addition, the mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.49%.

The recovery rate increased to 96.69% with the recovery of 660 additional patients during the 24 hour period.
